Ad marginem grafického alba Květné zahrady v Kroměříži

It was Olomouc bishop Karl of Liechtenstein-Castelcorn (1623–1695) who came up with the idea in 1665 to build a garden outside Kroměříž (Kremsier), and in 1675 construction of the Pleasure Garden, also called the Flower Garden, and most of its ornamentation was completed. The pursuit of this plan was one of the bishop's main priorities, and for this reason an important part of it involved the task of capturing it visually also in print. This resulted in the production of a slim book made up of dedication, prints, and index. Although this is a very well-known art-historical artefact, this article offers new information about this album of prints, examining it in the context of the ceremonial presentation of the bishop, incorporating works of art. Drawing on archive materials the article also describes how the commissioned work proceeded and what happened to it later. The article also discusses some well-known copies of the album and their condition and provenience.
