Abstract(s)
The study deals with the cantata "Námořník Mikuláš" (1928–1929) of the composer Vilém Petrželka (1889–1967). It explores the genesis of the work and various influences that affected the final shape of it. Despite of the fact Petrželka used a varied set of avant-garde expression elements (jazz band, Sprechgesang-like recitation, quarter-tones etc.), his cantata have many features in common with Bouře, a late-romantic cantata composed by Vítězslav Novák in 1910. The article tries to outline some parallels between the both works.
