Description
The article deals with the issue of research on interconfessional co-existence, and examines the limits of the use of qualitative approaches to the study of religion. First, attention is devoted to a general outline of the research itself (area of interest, criteria for the selection of a locality). Then the results of field work are summarized which illustrate the religious atmosphere in the selected locality (relations between religious and non-religious people and their impact on life in the community). The article goes on to discuss the methodological instruments used during the research, and examines, on the basis of the author's personal field research experience, the possible obstacles that could have been expected or that appeared during the course of the research (the problem of interpretation and anonymization, formulation of religious denomination, the confrontational character of the studied phenomenon, and so on. The conclusion points to possible solutions, and the advantages and disadvantages of using qualitative methods.
