Description
In the article the author examines the issues of working with narrators, and respondents in general; she focuses on cases where informants are not completely anonymous to a researcher (friends, relatives, acquaintances, colleagues, etc.). The article goes on to discuss the "insider" position of the researcher in relation to narrators, and the influence of gender within the framework of interaction between the woman questioner and the man narrator. The author works from her own experience with the methods of oral history in her project of interviewing former Czechoslovak seamen, and presents the entire issue in the form of a case study.
