Abstract(s)
The study entitled "Seeking the Order" follows the development of thought on the values of modesty and simplicity in Grecian and Roman philosophy. The author defines the terms of modesty in the context of ancient morality and demonstrates the practical signs of modesty in everyday life, then the ethics of modesty is presented as interpreted by various philosophical schools and tracks. Modesty is not presented as a virtue for its own sake, on the contrary, in the ancient thinkers' views, it is understood as an ideal way to reach personal happiness, individual and social harmony. Ancient opinions are, in this respect, very close to recent strivings for a voluntary modesty.
