Abstrakt(y)
The scarcity of the published editions of the eleventh-century Chanson de sainte Foy calls for a newly translated edition to be made available to the broader public. Under the keywords "re-editing", "translating", and "commenting", this contribution examines the need for this undertaking and the methods to be adopted to awaken the interest of a contemporary audience while combining scientific accuracy and accessibility. Although the edition itself can scarcely improve on Ernest Hoepffner's 1926 version, it is here argued that the translation must be conceived within a different framework, one that seeks to popularize without caricaturing the contents. This initiative is accompanied by a commentary which questions the limits of what can be included in a new edition without betraying the accuracy of both the text and of recent scholarly research.
