Abstract(s)
The aim of this contribution is to make readers familiar with one of the dangers to which development exposes cities in the Czech Republic, e.g. with the rise and existence of deprived areas. Pattems of socio-spatial structure of larger cities in the Czech Republic are, after few decades of a tendency toward homogenisation, beginning to return to more contrasting forms. Despite their slow pace, these changes bring danger to vulnerable sections of the population and their living environment. The author, using sources from abroad, offers a possible theoretical basis for the problém of deprived urban areas and shows the types of indicators used. He comments on several practical problems of the measurability of deprivation and associated possibilities and limits of its therapeutics.
