Abstract(s)
The present contribution adopts various points of view to discuss the terminology of the twelve nerves of the head that have currently been referred to comprehensively as nervi craniales. The individual names have the same formal structure; a terminological unit is formed by a substantival member + an adjective in the syntactic valency of a concordant (close) attribute. The time of origin of the investigated terms is being determined and the occurrence of synonymous names and variants is being traced. In several cases reference is made to the process of what is called terminologisation, when a certain expression acquires technical meaning and the character of a term. Motivatedness is being defined as one of the essential qualities of a term.
