Abstract(s)
The present paper by František Kopečný was originally presented orally in 1984 but never published. The manuscript was found in the family inheritance and was offered for publication. This edition is therefore a commemoration of the life and work of one of most important Czech linguists of the second half of the 20th century. The paper focuses on problematic consequences of Dobrovský's orthographical reform of writing of i after c, on a problem of artificial archaization of the Czech orthographic system and of the "democratization" (i.e. Marxist class oriented) reform of writing of foreign words in the 20th century. Kopečný's criticism is oriented toward the whole orthographic tradition including the Baroque era, abandoned by Dobrovský and his followers.
Note
The paper was edited by Ondřej Ševčík.
