Description
In theoretical work dealing with interviews or the telling of life stories respondents and researchers, there may exist more or less an agreement in regard to the formalized approach, or the observation of certain rules and manner of behavior towards respondents. However, these approaches may not always be the best strategy. A life story need not be told in full, and it is important to analyze interviews conducted only by asking and answering questions. What is important is not complete adherence to the rules, advice or tips from the specialized literature, but building trust between the respondent and the interviewer. Formalized interaction overly adhering to the rules in respect to the respondent may not always be the most productive way. It forces its presuppositions and standardized interactions on individuals through categorization, and in many other aspects. In reality, formalization often turns into non-formalized interaction between respondent and interviewer. What must always be taken into account is the unique nature of each research situation.
