Abstract(s)
The decrease in assets of the Moravian branch of the Kaunitz family and the dispersal of the family's famous collection of paintings tends to be associated with the last Moravian Kaunitz, Prince Alois Wenzel (1774–1848). However, he was an interesting individual with wide cultural knowledge. During his diplomatic career in Naples, Madrid, and Rome, he not only bought works by old masters for his collection, he also commissioned works of contemporary art from such artists as Simon Denis, Jakob Philipp Hackert, Carl Christian Vogel von Vogelstein, Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, and Vincenzo Camuccini.
