Abstract(s)
This study deals with the first Greek periodical press which emerged initially outside of Greece. Historical periodisation and some circumstances connected to the distribution of the first journals introduce the topic at the beginning. Some terminological problems are subsequently briefly outlined. In addition to the traditional locations of the Greek mercantile and intellectual diaspora in Western Europe, the paper focuses rather on eastern localities with revivalist activities in the period after the Greek national revolution. The conclusion also portrays the contrasting situation of the periodical press, written in a foreign language and published in Greece.
