Antonín Václavík a Slovácké museum v Uherském Hradišti

Even though the life in Uherské Hradiště during the early 1940's was affected by World War II events, the city councillors decided to resume museum activities. The city's efforts were extensive but due to a lack of experts the city did not manage to achieve all goals as defined. However, these goals did come to fruition when Antonín Václavík started to work for the Museum of Moravian Slovakia. Being an experienced professional, Václavík's vision was to build a regional museum based on rich collections, to arrange these collections and process them. Moreover, he strived for extensive presentation of the museum via publications. He worked for the Museum of Moravian Slovakia in Uherské Hradiště from 1941 to 1945 (when he started to work at the department of ethnology and ethnography of Masaryk University in Brno). As a representative of the museum, he managed to obtain as gifts or purchase numerous items for the Museum of Moravian Slovakia. They were from all over the region, most notably from the region known as Luhačovické Zálesí. He commenced the process of registration of collections; he laid foundation of the studies of customs and folk art. Collections amassed by Václavík himself, personal, professional, research and scientific contacts, professional ethnographic courses and knowledge acquired during the involvement with the Museum of Moravian Slovakia have become an unforgettable platform for Václavík's future professional career and monographs.
