Description
- Canada is often identified with “the North”. This is of course obvious in the geographical sense, but “the North” is a much more complex concept, embracing a wide scope of meanings and symbolic values. This volume is a collection of eighteen essays covering a broad range of disciplines and dealing with issues regarding the North as observed from the perspective of Canadian Studies. Each of them highlights a different kind of “nordicity”, touching on such areas as literature, cultural studies, sport, the teaching of Canada in the schoolroom, theatre, art, broadcasting, film, political science, sociology, social policy and economics. The articles are in both English and French.
