Abstrakt(y)
The author deals with both theoretical problems and particular topics including the division of Church life into three streams (home official, home clandestine, exile), the experience that believers gained in the 1950s, especially in prisons, important features of Czech Church spirituality (a certain conservativeness of elites, emphasis on education, relics of antijudaism etc), activities of the Church in the 1960s (acceptance of Vatican II, The Work of Council Renewal), the failure of Church institutions and concrete personalities in the era of normalization and the Church attitude to the revolution of 1989.The paper sums up the issues but also points to new research opportunities.
