Obrazová sbírka olomouckého kanovníka Georga Friedricha ze Salburgu († 1692)

A newly discovered posthumous inventory of the property of Georg Friedrich († 1692), Canon of Olomouc, archdeacon, and Provost of Kroměříž, and freeman of Salburg, contains a list of paintings that decorated the interior of his residence in Olomouc. His was a comparatively smaller collection, which he assembled gradually between the 1660s and 1680s. Among the 117 paintings in this collection there were allegedly original works by Hans Holbein, Lucas van Leyden, and Daniel Seghers. The collection contained a very large number of paintings by central European artists or artists working in central Europe, such as Johann Spillenberger, Carl Borromäus Andreas Ruthart, Jan Thomas, Renier Meganck, Carl Ferdinand Fabritius, and Johann Anton Eismann, i.e. painters who were in direct contact with the Bishop of Olomouc, Karl II von Liechtenstein-Castelcorn (1624–1695) and whose work was in the bishop's collection. This may serve as a valuable argument in support of the hypothesis about the influence of the bishop's collection and his activities in the field of art and culture on members of the Olomouc metropolitan chapter.
