One of the three basic types of negation used in both the Dutch and the Czech language is lexical negation. The paper pays special attention to the comparison of nouns with the negative prefixes on- in the Dutch and ne- in the Czech. At first, they are briefly characterised and then compared on the basis of the data from written corpora, namely the Corpus Hedendaags Nederlands, SoNaR and the SYN corpora. The translation equivalents of the most frequent nouns with the negative prefixes on- and ne-, as found in the Dutch-Czech, Czech-Dutch translation dictionaries and in the parallel corpus InterCorp, are also analysed.
